The VOTE necklace is here! September 10, 2020 20:44

At Adornia, we have a tradition of creating jewelry that inspires and empowers the wearer. During the last election, we conceived of both the hope necklace and the nasty necklace. Both were two sentiments that many shared equally in 2016. Outspoken and unafraid, we branded ourselves proudly as NASTY WOMEN. We were also incredibly hopeful for change and knew that our work didn't start and end with the election. This election year, inspired by Michelle Obama's speech and fashion choices, we decided to put our own spin on the VOTE necklace she wore that night. We are offering at a discount from the MSRP to make it as affordable as possible and are donating 10% of profits to Fair Fight, an organization committed to supporting fair and free elections. Shop now and wear proudly!

We raised $3,260 for Black Lives Matter Global Network this month June 30, 2020 15:04

Dear Friends,

I am so happy to share with you that after a month of shooting from the rooftops that we're donating 100% of profits from the hope lariat sales in June...the fruits of  our labor is here. We were able to raise $3,260 and made the donation a few minutes ago. I am so proud of our collective efforts. Adornia is a small business that prides itself on giving back. My background is not in jewelry, but in history, where I focused on race relations in America and Germany. When the George Floyd video was released, mortified and energized, I decided to act fast and turn my hope necklace as part of the movement for justice for the black community. Our fight does not stop here. Please stay tuned as we look for more ways to get involved and leave our mark on the world as a small business with heart and soul.

We're donating 100% of profits from sales of the hope lariat to #blacklivesmatter June 5, 2020 09:18

Dearest friends,

I felt quite tone deaf the last week trying to post anything about jewelry on our social media channels. The US (and arguably the world) woke up last week incensed about the racial injustice plaguing our country. We say no more to unfair racial targeting and police brutality against the African American community. We demand a more even playing field and equal opportunity for all people, especially African Americans with the history of racial suppression dating from slavery. I am proud to make jewelry that inspires and gives back. I have decided to donate 100% of profits from sales of the hope lariat necklace to the Black Lives Matters movement for the foreseeable future. My company Adornia is grateful for the support and patronage of the African American community over the years. To be silent right now is to be complicit. Happy shopping! Please help me write a nice check at the end of this month.

Just Checking In March 23, 2020 13:39

Hello Friends!

Adornia is a small woman-owned and run business, and like many other small businesses, our current situation has added an additional level of stress to our plate.

As we are practicing social distancing, our employees are not able to come into our Chelsea workspace out of concern for their safety. All of Adornia's employees are still being paid at this time, as paying bills should not be an added stressor for anybody right now.

We (primarily our founder, Moran) are still filling online orders, and doing so with caution so as to ensure the safety of our products for you. We are doing our best to bring as much beauty into your worlds as possible in this time of uncertainty and tension.

We are doing everything we can to keep things running and to keep our employees paid, so that maybe we can bring a little bit of beauty and joy into your life today. Stay Safe.

With Love,

The Adornia Team

#AdorniaWoman : Vanessa Villegas March 6, 2020 08:11

What is an #adorniawoman? A woman that defies stigmas, has something to say and says it without fear, guilt or shame. Vanessa Villegas fully embodies the #Adorniawoman. Her confidence and depth are on display via her instagram, @vanessavillegasofficial.
We asked her a few questions.
1. I see you have ballet and olympic experience, so how did you get into modeling?
I actually got into modeling through an ex boyfriend. He was a model and that was the first time I ever saw it in real life as a true profession. If it is reality for someone else then it certainly can be a reality for me. I love performing and I always saw modeling as some sort of performance.
2. You seem to embrace your body unapologetically on Instagram and you are in incredible shape. So much respect for you! Have you always been comfortable with your body?
When I was younger I got made fun of a lot for my body type. Especially during pre-teen through teenage age. Kids would say I was too muscular and that I looked like a boy. It was most certainly a journey, and a process to learn to accept my body, just like any woman. I think it is an unfortunate thing that our body is something we must feel comfortable with. I mean, our mothers bodies made us, and we will do what we want with our bodies. It is what is carrying us through life, like a space ship or something! I think if its healthy than that is all that matters.
3. You picked our moonstone pieces to wear! What drew you to the pieces? How does our jewelry make you feel?
It is said that a moonstone can magnify ones emotions. As a model who is now journeying into acting, I would love to be in touch with myself in any way I can! I meditated a lot and take a lot of time to myself to understand what I'm feeling so I can be a fully self aware. In an age of social media where everyone is saying things they don't mean, and communication half of what they intended, I want to be alert for every exchange that I am in with people. Part of that is knowing exactly how I feel about things. Whether a moonstone really does or doesn't magnify my mood, I sure like what it represents. And I love this set too!
xoxox to you, Vanessa. Do you know an #adorniawoman that deserves to be recognized? Send us an email to press@adornia.com or send us a DM on our Instagram @adornia! We can't wait to see her style Adornia.

Interview with Mo (part 2) January 8, 2020 21:51

Part 2 of our Q & A with Mo!

What inspires you on a daily basis?
What inspires me is seeing the progress I make from working on Adornia and using that positive feedback to keep reinvesting emotionally and financially in the business
How do you maintain a healthy work life balance?
Hahaha I don't. But I am not someone who likes to not work. My work for Adornia is my life and I don't see the need to separate. I need a day off here and there
Do you have advice for people who want to open their own business?
Well get ready! Starting any business is incredibly tough, takes a lot of stamina and grit. Determine what your goals are, whether that be opening an etsy store or getting your product in big stores, and put together a plan to get there
How do you embody your Leo Sun?
I am incredibly intense, ambitious, dominant, can be emotional. I have no cusp to other signs. I am a true Leo Aug 11
What is the last great thing you read, saw, or experienced?
I am a little cynical so hard to impress me, but I love country music and had so much fun at the Cole Swindell concert at Mohegan Sun arena last month. Also Stagecoach (aka Coachella for country lololol) was amazing this year

Creating our jewelry wall at the #adornialoft January 7, 2020 11:04

Hi! I decided to create a space for all of the jewelry to sit in one organized place at the #adornialoft. Where we could pick and choose jewlery to style ourselves every morning and see all the layering options clearly! I am already loving the wall we built. It is also great as a design archive to build new designs off of existing ones. In case you are curious to organize your jewelry this way, we used a tack board that I bought during the Black Friday sale on Pottery Barn Teen. Here is an image of the full board and a time lapse video of me organizing the board. Stay tuned to our Instagram stories for highlights of me jewelry dressing from the board each morning.

Meet Adornia's founder, Mo Amir January 3, 2020 20:32

Hope you like our first Q&A of the year with our founder and Designer.
How did you start your business?
I started my business in grad school. I had a fashion background and worked at companies like Catherine Malandrino and Diesel. I always loved jewelry especially how personal it can be for an individual and how such a small detail can make a strong statement.
How do you personally embody the values of your brand?
Adornia's design represent playful, feminine, and fearless women everywhere. I can be serious most of the time, but love my silly side that comes out around people I connect with. Femininity is tough because I am not a girly girl, but I do embrace being a woman wholeheartedly, the good and the bad that comes with that.
I like saying no two gemstones are alike and no two women are alike equally. I feel like i am fearless when it comes to my career by getting the work done and not taking no for an answer.
What did you learn in 2019 that you want to take with you in 2020?
I have been studying Instagram meanwhile building my confidence to get out there and represent my authentically on this platform. I am ready to take the next level in 2020.
What are your plans for 2020?
Continue to build my team! Get my creative content right!
What are your New Year's resolutions?
Date less, work more. I am done with men lol. I am going to St. Barths for MLK weekend. My goal is to dance on tables and have champagne sprayed on me. Period.

Thank you! December 29, 2019 19:23

Hi, I am Mo, founder and owner of this jewelry company Adornia. I am going to start posting regularly on this blog things going on in the #adornialoft and my life trying to grow this business. I am going to stop pretending like we're some big sophisticated jewelry company. It is an exhausting front to maintain and I am not good at lying. It is mainly me and my small team operating out of my New York City apartment trying to make things happen for my brand. The jewels we make are first class, designer quality, but our day-to-day is humble, and it is the small wins that make a difference and keep me going every day. At the core of Adornia is a playful, feminine, and fearless (but at times vulnerable) woman, expressing herself through a mix of our gemstone and expressive jewelry. No two gemstones are alike and no two women are alike equally.  Thank you for reading along and viewing my designs!

xo, Mo

Adornia's First #Wokejewelrybabe: Esther Maria Of Howlingwolve March 26, 2019 15:49

esther maria instagram feminist body positive blogger Adornia feature

What is a #wokejewelrybabe? A woman that defies stigmas, has something to say and says it without fear, guilt or shame. Esther Maria of howlingwolve is the epitome of an #Adorniawoman. She spreads body positivity, promotes self-love and posts honest everyday thoughts about life, love, and confidence.

We asked her a few questions.

1. What's your favorite jewelry piece in your collection?

EM: My ring! It was from my grandmother. Her aunt and she wore it for her entire life. My mother inherited it from her, but it didn't fit her much and she didn't love it. I found it in my teenage years and my mother said I could keep it. It fits perfectly! The opal stone is beautiful and I have been wearing it non-stop for a few years now.

2. What does feminism mean to you?

EM: Feminism for me means equality for all. Women's rights, disability rights, refugee rights, black rights, indigenous rights, LGBTQIAP+ rights, etc. I believe in intersectionality.

3. How would you describe your personal style?

EM: I would describe is as comfortable, edgy and elegant with a vintage vibe, but it depends on the day, really!

A Quick History Lesson: International Women's Day March 8, 2019 12:30

international women's day march 8th

Feminism has never been about getting a job for one woman. It's about making life more fair for women everywhere. It's not about a piece of the existing pie; there are too many of us for that. It's about baking a new pie.” — Gloria Steinem

Welcome, Adornia babes. International Women's Day is March 8th, so we thought we'd do a little history lesson for you. Celebrated in many countries around the world, this day is when women are recognized for their contributions and achievements, without national, cultural, economical or political divides. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. International Women's Day was first celebrated on March 19, 1911, when a million women and men rallied in support of women's rights on that first International Women's Day.

This year's International Women's Day campaign has chosen the theme #BalanceforBetter, which encourages people around the world to take action towards accelerating gender balance. The past 18 months have seen the women's movement reach a scale higher than before with the #metoo movement (millions began using the hashtag to speak out against experiences of harassment and assault and to form a bond with others that have suffered similarly), the midterm elections, and marches occurring almost monthly. Although these strides are amazing, there is still so much that has to change and continue to change.

Women are still not paid equally to that of their male co-workers, women still are not present in EQUAL numbers in business or politics, women's education, health and the violence against them are still worse than what men go through and deal with. If you can, take the opportunity to rally, vote, protest, speak out, and be bold.

Quick history timeline ///

1909: The first National Woman's Day was observed across the United States on February 28th.

1910: Clara Zetkin, Leader of the 'Women's Office' for the Social Democratic Party in Germany, presented the idea of an International Women's Day. Over 100 women from 17 countries vouched and agreed for and with her.

1917: Russian women began a 4-day strike for "bread and peace" after the death of over 2 million Russian soldiers in World War 1. After those four days, the Czar was forced to step down and the provisional Government granted women the right to vote.

1975: International Women's Day was celebrated for the first time by the United Nations.

1996: The UN adopted the idea of a yearly theme.

2011: 100 year centenary of International Women's Day.

Today: The world has witnessed a massive change and attitude shift in both women's and society's thoughts about women, their rights and equality for all. Daily, improvements are being made but there are still many to be altered.

Make everyday International Women's Day; then we'll witness a fully gender-equal society.

Quarter Charity Pick: Girls Not Brides March 5, 2019 14:21

Adornia charity profits Girls Not Brides Organization

With a global partnership of more than 1000 civil society organizations from over 95 countries, Girls Not Brides is committed to ending child marriage by amplifying the voice of girls at risk. Initiated in September of 2011 by a group of independent global leaders called The Elders, this group was formed as part of an effort to gather more attention to the harmful practices that hold girls and young women back.

Members are based throughout Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas. Girls Not Brides brings global attention to child marriage, helps to build an understanding of what it'll take to end child marriage, and calls for laws, policies, and programs to help make a difference in the lives of millions of girls around the world. GNB defends the rights of girls to health, education and the opportunity to fulfill their potentials. In line with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, we, and they believe that 18 should be the minimum age of marriage for boys and girls.

We're more than happy to support this cause. 10% of profits this quarter will be donated to Girls Not Brides, an organization that should be supported by everyone.

Let's Talk: The Me Too Lariat & RAINN October 18, 2017 20:42

Hi, I'm Mo, founder/designer of ADORNIA. I was also the victim of sexual abuse as a child. Our lariat collection, with each necklace centered around a specific word, reclaim words such as nasty, gay, and woke proudly and unite women through shared meaning. The Me Too lariat we launched today seeks to give voice to women who are survivors of sexual violence. I created the necklace for myself, because I had something to say on the matter, and that I was no longer ashamed. But I also wanted to share it with you. 100% of profits will be donated to RAINN, the Rape Abuse Incest National Network (https://www.rainn.org), the nation's largest anti-sexual violence organization. On all other products listed on our site, 10% of profits will be donated to RAINN through the end of December.

September Charity: Young Women's Leadership Network September 3, 2017 21:27

Hi #adorniawomen,
Wanted to announce our September charitable focus, the Young Women's Leadership Network (http://www.ywln.org). YWLN supports two life-changing programs that empower students to break the cycle of poverty through education:

  1. The Young Women's Leadership Schools, a high-performing network of all-girls public secondary schools.
  2. The College-Bound Initiative, a comprehensive college guidance program for young women and men.

New Donation Model at ADORNIA July 31, 2017 21:20

Starting with August 2017, we've moved away from donating proceeds from some lariat necklaces to now donating for every single lariat sold. Whereas prior, 10% of proceeds would only be donated from sales of woke, gay, and nasty lariats, now donations will be made across the board.

Also, excitingly we'll be donating 10% of monthly net profits from the collection to a different charity monthly. Each charity must show a track record of empowering women. Our first charity for month of August 2017 is Dress for Success. DFS is an international not-for-profit organization that empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. We're glad to help make boss look like bosses across the country!
